The Royal Pavilion was originally built as a seaside retreat for King George IV, at which time it was a modest Marine Pavilion.
It now stands as an impressive Indian style palace thanks to the work of John Nash who redesigned the building in the early 1800s.
The building and its grounds were sold to the town in 1850 and Brighton municipality has worked hard to restore the rooms to their original state.
The gardens have also been returned to their Regency grandeur and within them can be found the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery (Free entrance).
It is worth a walk through the gardens, if not to admire the view, to listen to the buskers who can usually be found playing opposite the lawn.
