Sculpture at Pelham House
Sculptors often exhibited in the Garden:
Christian Funnell produces metal work for both public and private commissions. Our reception desk and the metal work surrounding the bar including the wonderful lamp and bar grill were commissioned by Pelham in 2008. Christian also produces sculpture in metal on show in our garden.
Guy Stevens' serene figurative and abstract stone carvings can be found both in the house and garden. Guy takes both public and private commissions. His latest commission was for the NHS Trust in Porthmadog.
Paul Wells is both artist and blacksmith creating decorative and functional ironwork to commission or for exhibition. His work is found in the garden.
Stephanie Davies-Arai ARBS is a fine art sculptor producing semi figurative work. She carves direct from the block which is not cast or reproduced in any way. Stephanie has work on permanent display in many countries including Japan. Her work is in both the house and garden.
Maria Gibbs' sculpture is figurative in terracotta, bronze or resin. She particularly enjoys portraiture and has exhibited with the Society of Portrait Sculptors. She has taught ceramics to physically disabled people. Her work is in the House.
Si Uwins makes wooden sculpture inspired by natural forms such as seed pods. He uses both chain saw and then carves to produce his work. Si also makes practical objects such as benches and will work to commission.
Serena Thirkell’s sculptures are in welded and cast steel. Her works metamorphose industrial salvage into iconographic figures, totems and animals with strong mythological resonances. She has pieces in private collections in Paris, London, New York and Rome. She lives and works in Lewes and Italy.
Roger Day works in wood to commission and for exhibition. He has a portfolio of private and public work spanning many artistic styles including figurative, abstract and furniture design. He also demonstrates widely and frequently works aboard.
