Sculpture at Pelham House

Ev Meynell. His work celebrates the natural vitality that links humans with other living forms and with our natural environment and he expresses this in both figurative and abstract modes.

Many of Ev's pieces stretch out with welcoming exuberance and explosive energy. They are often stylised to the point where interest is divided between recognition of the figure as representation and response to its abstract form.

He works in clay and casts his pieces in bronze or various resins, sometimes with the addition of stainless steel rims in the abstract sculptures.

Mark Stonestreet. He has been creating sculptures for 20 years. Starting as an industrial welder, he now carves granite sculptures. His work is inspired by many different subjects.

Pelham will be showing his leaf forms and his elephants from the time when he lived in India.

Rosemarie Powell. She started working as a sculptor in the mid-1990s, soon moving from mostly figurative work to abstract forms. She works in clay, which is then often cast in plaster, resins or bronze, and she also carves in stone, predominantly alabaster and marble, and wood. creations.

Sculpture

Christian Funnell produces metal work for both public and private commissions. Our reception desk and the metal work surrounding the bar including the wonderful lamp and bar grill were commissioned by Pelham in 2008. Christian also produces sculpture in metal on show in our garden.

Guy Stevens' serene figurative and abstract stone carvings can be found both in the house and garden. Guy takes both public and private commissions. His latest commission was for the NHS Trust in Porthmadog.

Paul Wells is both artist and blacksmith creating decorative and functional ironwork to commission or for exhibition. His work is found in the garden.

Si Uwins makes wooden sculpture inspired by natural forms such as seed pods. He uses both chain saw and then carves to produce his work. Si also makes practical objects such as benches and will work to commission.

Serena Thirkell’s sculptures are in welded and cast steel. Her works metamorphose industrial salvage into iconographic figures, totems and animals with strong mythological resonances. She has pieces in private collections in Paris, London, New York and Rome. She lives and works in Lewes and Italy.

Teresa Martin studied at Winchester School of Art. As well as exhibiting throughout the South of England and the Channel Islands, Teresa is a tutor at City College Brighton & Hove, Northbrook Art College, Worthing, and West Sussex Adult Ed. at Steyning. Her current work is a development of the casting process, using negative textures and innovative uses of rubber moulds producing many exciting and original forms.

All exhibitions are free and open from 9.00 am till 9.00 pm. There may be some restrictions to viewing some of the work as we may have an event taking place. If you would like to view something particular it is best to call before coming along to Pelham House Hotel. Tel: 01273 488600.
