Places of Interest

Anne of Cleves House

Anne of Cleves House is a 15th century timber-framed Wealden house that formed part of Anne's divorce settlement from Henry VIII in 1541. The house is a remarkable example of medieval and late-Elizabethan craftsmanship, and in 1923 it was given to Sussex Archaeological Society who have restored and re-modelled the premises to provide a museum containing a range of interesting artefacts such as local pottery, 18th century tapestries, exposing timber beams, richly carved oak furniture and amazing pieces of carved stonework.

Lewes Bonfire night

Lewes is world-renowned for its lively Bonfire night celebrations, with torchlit processions through the streets and several bonfires. With seven local societies, Lewes Bonfire night is an extremely popular local event and quite a spectacle for tourists.
