The vineyard is 5 miles from Lewes and lies in a protected bowl within the South Downs National Park and has been described by Oz Clarke as the most beautiful vineyard in Britain. Oz also said “The wine I’m fondest of and feel emotionally closest to is Breaky Bottom. It’s a lovely, maverick, emotional, romantic, joyous, individual original, just a one-off.”
Breaky Bottom was set up in 1974 by Peter Hall and was the first of the Sussex based vineyards. Peter had the foresight to realise that great sparkling wine could be made in England and rival the best of the Champagne makers across the channel.
