Art Exhibitions at Pelham House
Pelham House is strongly committed to the promotion of arts and culture.
The house and grounds play host to a permanent collection of modern sculpture and throughout the year, we stage exhibitions of painting and photography by local artists.
In addition, our venue is regularly hired by arts groups and promoters to stage a wide variety of theatrical, musical and poetic cultural events.
Sculpture is always on exhibition in the garden and comes and goes as if by magic, so you never know when you will find a piece you haven't seen before.
All our exhibitions are open from 9.00am to 9.00pm and are free. Nearly all work is for sale.
Our facilities are also popular for lecture series, group meetings and weekend seminars.
CURRENT EXHIBITIONS:
Rex Matthews –Travels in Morocco
5th January - 14th February 2012
Rex Matthews is a Brighton based painter who takes his inspiration from the land and sea both at home and abroad. The experience of travelling, sketching and note taking while on these travels provides the starting point for the paintings.
Rex's current work draws inspiration from Morocco. Patterns emerge; the arrangement of produce in the souks, tiles on table tops or courtyards, the heat and shade through arches, the gestural curve of an arch way, the cool of an evening on city roof tops.
Working through images back at home, some essence of all that was seen, heard, smelt and felt emerges in the form of a visual language that can be explored to result in colourful, warm and vibrant images. Working in the studio is a new journey and any image a resting point on that journey.

Eleanor Bentall, Liam Sharp and Simon Keizer
5th January - 14th February 2012
Exhibiting in the Foyer Space and Restaurant, we have a diverse collection of work from three photographers. Eleanor Bentall is a London based portrait and feature photographer with over twenty years experience working for national newspapers and magazines, as well as for clients in the corporate and charity sector. She is originally from New Zealand where she trained as a journalist before moving to the UK to pursue a career in photography.
Liam Sharp is a people photographer who specializes in real people photography for advertising, corporate and editorial in Canada and the UK.
He is a conceptual thinker, who will work with his clients to visually articulate their objectives. Working as a creative partner, his reputation is based on his ability to capture those attributes in people that make them who they are. When asked what differentiates him, it is his mastery at manipulating light and his ability to capture the essence of his subjects.
Simon Keizer works in print and digital format photography with a strong emphasis on composition and subject matter from the built environment. He studied photography at Camberwell College and is proprietor of Keizer Frames picture framing and gallery in Lewes.
